Full disclosure: I have been a fan of Steely Dan for a long time, but my first exposure to the group was their 1977 album Aja. I had only heard Bodhisattva on a greatest hits album and immediately feel in love with that guitar solo by Denny Dias. I was not familiar with the band’s earlier albums until a buddy of mine played this album, the actual vinyl object, one evening about 5 years ago. I was schooled by this 1973 masterpiece. Thanks Kenny for showing me that SD was more than a top ten-adult-contemporary-Black Cow-drinking-smooth-jazz-playing combo. More to come from this album…
